ACCE Science Team Greening Focus

From the beginning of ACCE becoming more green, the Science team has made it a priority to be the lead in this endeavor. Outside of implementing environmental literacy into their curriculum, the Science team takes the lead with regards to encouraging students to become green citizens. There were seven active members of the Science team in the 2011-2012 school year and ten active members in the 2012-2013 school year.

Weekly Team Meetings

The Science team meets every week to address a variety of topics. A regular focal point of every team meeting is addressing how to make ACCE a greener and better school.  The ACCE Science team works with Jean Mellot regularly to bring their students outside. For the recycling drive for mother's day cards, box armor wars, and the recycling fashion show, the Science teachers were the hub for gathering cardboard tubing (gift wrap tubes/paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes), old shirts, and plastic bags . The Science teachers have promoted their students to join the ACCE after school green team. Furthermore, its teachers talk with their students about joining the summer garden program with Youthworks. For Earth Day, there is an environmental focus for their lessons. They conducted recycling surveys created by Towson University in their classrooms.  As ACCE moves to become more green, its Science team will continue to lead the way.
